The Allen Press bibliography with art work, sample pages from previous editions

San Francisco : The Book Club of California, 1985

This book is one of an edition limited to one hundred and forty copies. The typefaces, set by hand, are Romanée and Spectrum, with Deepende italic for display. The all-rag paper was handmade to our specifications especially for this edition by Barcham Green & Company, ENgland, and was printed damped on our 1846 model Columbian handpress. Illustrations and decorations are from work produced at the Allen Press, 1939 through 1980. Inserts of sample pages are numbered as per Bibliography. The cloth for the binding is Richelieu which was hand-blocked by Fortuny at venice, Italy. The titel page engraving, by Mallette Dean, appeared in The splendid Idle Forties (24). The brief bibliographical details at the beginning of each title listing are from the check-lists of the Allen Press books, and appeared originally in The Book Club of California's News-Letter (Spring 1960 and 1976) compiled respectively by William P. Barlow Jr. and D. Steven Corey. Designed, printed and bound by Lewis and Dorothy Allen, Greenbrae, Cailifornia.
